About Lupins and Lollypops

Lupins and Lollypops is ideal for using up some of your stash of threads.
Each of the sections is so small you will find the short lengths of threads left from another project are easily stitched into this project.

This design was inspired by a friend’s wonderful show of Lupins some years ago – which she says she has never been able to repeat – that’s gardening
Ok …….. I’ll now chat about the stitching …….
In this design I wanted to incorporate the texture and shape of all stages of the life span of the Lupin plant.
From small buds opening, stems in full bloom, to seed pods and seeds forming, all have been stitched into this project.
Traditional and for me, new stitches were selected, some are adapted slightly. 
To add texture and sparkle to this piece I used a collection of threads from Rainbow Gallery and then added delicate beading.
Once I had stitched the ‘square’ shapes I was instantly taken on a journey back to my childhood of wonderful Lollypops (candy) on a little stick. They were such a treat.
I hope you enjoy the treat of stitching this piece.

Stitches used:
Twenty eight sections are filled with classical needlepoint stitches and some variations including: Rice, cross, chequerboard, elongated upright cross, mosaic, triangle, overlaying elongated cross, leaf, Hungarian diamond, flower, bargello, Rocco, part Rhodes, large rice, Smyrna and Kalem.
