Stitched in the colour of the Danish Flag this sampler combining items from Queen Mary’s Tasmanian heritage and her role now.
Merrilyn explained her selection of motives for the design.
“Hearts are very frequently part of Danish crafts, so a delicate border of hearts was designed.
As water surrounds both countries the border is slightly undulating.
In the top right and left corner of the border there are two sets of two hearts, this represents Queen Mary’s four children.
Our National Floral emblems, Wattle of Australia and the Margurite daisy of Denmark. The Queen of Denmark Rose has a long heritage, released in 1826.
To represent the different terrain of our state and Denmark, I stitched the De Witt Street cottages on a slope, representing the hills and mountains of Tasmania, Denmark has virtually no hills or mountains.
Fredericksburg Palace is proudly protected by two eucalyptus (gum) trees.”
About Queen Mary of Denmark
Mary Elizabeth Donaldson Born 5th February 1972 Hobart Tasmania.
Mary’s education in Hobart from 1975 to 1994, culminating in a University Degree.
2000 Sydney Australia hosted the Olympics. The Crown Prince of Denmark and Mary Donaldson met during the Olympics.
The couple married on 14th May 2004, with much excitement in Australia, especially in Tasmania
On 14th January 2024 Queen Margarethe Abdicated. King Frederick Succession to the Throne.
Mary’s smile, grace, demure and interest in everyone she meets has enthralled us.
Her transition to Crown Princess, mother, and Queen has been admired and respected by thousands.
